Costa Rica is a country known for its incredible natural beauty and biodiversity, and the Corcovado National Park region is a haven for nature lovers and adventurers. In this blog article I want to tell you everything you need to know about Drake Bay and the area surrounding Corcovado National Park.
The Corcovado National Park region and the area surrounding the village of Drake Bay is like paradise!

Why should you travel to this region?
Drake Bay itself is a quaint village of just a few hundred people. It sits on the edge of the jungle and offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. The surrounding area is characterized by lush greenery, exotic animals and rich flora and fauna. There are numerous activities to do here, such as river cruises, snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking or hiking through the jungle.
Tourists shouldn't miss Drake Bay Station and Corcovado National Park for a unique nature experience. The location on the edge of the jungle and the Pacific Ocean is unique and offers countless opportunities for adventure and relaxation. The natural environment in Corcovado National Park is incredibly diverse and pristine, with many unique species found nowhere else in the world.
For nature lovers, this is a must!
Argument#2: Surrounding villages and beaches and their activities
Argument #1: Corcovado National Park
Corcovado National Park is one of the most famous nature reserves in Costa Rica and a true paradise for nature lovers and adventurers. The park covers an area of more than 400 square kilometers and offers an incredible variety of flora and fauna. There are 13 different ecosystems and more than 500 species of trees. The animal world is also very diverse and includes monkeys, tapirs, jaguars, sloths, crocodiles and many species of birds.
Argument #2: Surrounding villages and beaches and their activities
The region around Corcovado National Park is also known for its beautiful beaches, such as Playa Drake and Playa San Josecito. Here you can relax, swim or surf and enjoy the sun and the sea. There are also many small villages to explore in the area, such as Puerto Jimenez or Carate.
If you're in Drake Bay or the Corcovado National Park region, be sure to try out some of the many activities on offer here. For example, you can take a boat tour to watch dolphins or whales, or hike through the jungle (Corcovado National Park) to discover the unique flora and fauna. There are also plenty of diving and snorkeling opportunities to experience the colorful marine life.
You can find all information about the tours on my site under the category "Tours".
Of course there are also activities that you can do for free. I can heartily recommend the "Drake Trail". This is a hike that goes south from the center of the village of Drakebay, the main beach, all along the beach, but always halfway in the forest, so in the shade of the trees, until you get to San Josecito. On the way there are always paradisiacal, deserted beaches where you can go swimming and stay for a few hours without meeting anyone. For me it is one of the most beautiful hikes you can do in this region, also because the vegetation and the environment are always changing. Cocalito Beach is also down this path but is only a 25 minute walk from Drake Bay. It is a paradisiacal hiking trail that will make you forget time and space...
This is the route from Agujitas in the center of the village to San Josecito. One way is about 3 hours. So remember to take enough water with you and also something to eat... The hike is not strenuous because it is mostly straight ahead, but it gets stretched if you stop every now and then to photograph the monkeys, admire crabs or a to stop for a swim....You can walk the trail with normal shoes, you don't necessarily need hiking boots for it. There are even locals who go this route with flip-flops, but it is up to you.

Argument #3: Sustainability and conservation projects
The region around Corcovado National Park is also known for its sustainability and environmental protection projects. Many of the tour operators and hotels focus on sustainability and environmental protection in order to preserve the natural beauty of the region. Entrances to the national park are limited so that not too many people go into the park per day and disturb the natural environment of the animals.
You can contribute your skills and strengths to many projects as a volunteer. For example, my favorite project is the project that saves sea turtles, several thousands every year. This project can always use some help, whether it's high or low season!Find out more about her project here: Rascarey
Overall, the region around Corcovado National Park is a true dream for nature lovers and adventurers. With its incredible biodiversity, beautiful beaches and many activities, this region is a must for anyone visiting Costa Rica.

See you soon in Drake Bay,Pura Vida!
